High School

Victor-Hugo is the Anglophone section of Ecole active Bilingue. It offers a highly selective education through an English language based curriculum.
The educational philosophy of Ecole active Bilingue, Section Victor Hugo, rests on the principle of preparing its students through multi-cultural interaction, international understanding and awareness, and strong academic standards that encourage freedom and independence of thought. Furthermore, the goal of EaB (VH) is to arouse students’ initiative and to encourage them to become individually responsible for their own academic learning and progress.
• The Community Student body
In a co-educational and non-confessional environment, EaB Victor-Hugo hosts over 200 students between its upper and lower schools, representing an average of 50 different nationalities. This vast array of backgrounds within the student body affords fascinating opportunities for cultural exchange and intellectual enrichment.
The teaching and administrative personnel are equally diverse. Trained in a wide variety of educational traditions ranging from some 20 countries, they enhance the truly international character of the school. Placing a premium on individual attention while fostering team spirit, the Anglophone section maintains a faculty-student ratio of about 1 to 10. Criteria for admission entail entrance examinations, personal interview and assessment of previous school records.
• The Curriculum
Over 100 different courses are available at the high school level alone. A full range of disciplines are offered, including 9 levels of Englsh language and literature courses, 10 levels of mathematics, 5 levels of experimental sciences, social sciences (business studies, economics, history, civics), foreign languages (French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean) and electives (sports, art, music, chess, drama). The Victor-Hugo section operates according to two distinct yet complementary educational systems:the High School Diploma, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
• High School Diploma
The High School Diploma regime, primarily assessed through AP, Edexcel and University of Cambridge examination services, involves the accumulation of 25 credits from pre-defined subject areas over a period of 4 academic years (Grades 9-12).
• International baccalaureate diploma
The IB programme is a rigorous two-years course of study for students between the ages of 16 and 19. Students are required to take six academics subjects, plus Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Action, and Service activities, and the Extended Essay. It is an outstanding pre-university programme that is accepted by universities through the world, including the most selective, because it espouses the best elements of several national systems without being based on any one.
• Accreditation
EaB Victor Hugo (CEEB 731594) is accredited by the Franco-American Commission for Educational Exchange (Fulbright Commission) the examining boards of the universities of Cambridge, London and Oxford. and the International Baccalaureate Organization.
• In addition, the school functions under state contract with the French Ministry of Education, is affiliated with the UNESCO Associated School System and is a member of the European Council of International Schools.
